Welcome to Freebie Friday! Can you believe there’s only six weeks left in 2009? This realization hit me like a ton of bricks this week. Immediately I began to make a mental list of all things I haven’t done this year. Then I added all the things I still need to do. Sandwich two major holidays in there that each require travel, gift preparation, baking, decorating and, of course, exercising (pie is so not kind to the waistline) and you’ve got one busy schedule.
I enjoyed reading all of your comments from Brandy’s These Are the Days of Our Lives post. Who knew 341 people would have such strong opinions about the “right” time to decorate your home for Christmas? And while there were a few eager beavers out there, most of you said you must first give thanks the proper and traditional way. Once the turkeys have been carved and the last piece of pumpkin pie has been served, then you begin to wrap your heads around Christmas trees, shopping malls, busy airports and Santa’s eight little reindeer.
Can you tell I’m a little bit of a Scrooge? Don’t get me wrong…I love everything about Christmas. The sights, the smells, the hustling and bustling to get every present wrapped, every card signed and mailed. I just don’t want too much Christmas. I want to live in the now and enjoy the “gifts” that are ready to be unwrapped and savored today. Here’s a few of my favorites from a few of my favorite “gals”…

Happy Fall Card by Teri Anderson

November Card by Maren Benedict

Thank You Pumpkin Card by Kim Hughes

Glittered Pumpkin by Kim Kesti

Give Thanks Card by Betsy Veldman

Fall is in the Air Card by Jessica Witty

Ready for today’s giveaway? I swear by my planner, my desk calendar, my little notebook of reminders and lists. They keep me sane (well, at least semi-sane) in an increasingly insane world. I believe organization is the key to enjoying the now and fitting in all the other stuff that can sometimes weigh us down. Leave a comment telling me your secret for juggling a busy life and how you make time to live in the now. I’ll pick two winners to receive Karen Foster Design’s Desktop Flip Calendar Kit AND their Calendar Creations Creative Kit. Why not paper craft and get organized at the same time?! All comments must be received by midnight (MST) on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Two lucky winners will take home this prize package from Karen Foster Design!
Happy Friday!

I have three calendars, all with the same stuff written on them! lol. I am very forgetful when it comes to appointments and stuff like that so I have it written all over the place. My daughter has recenlty joined Girl Scouts and I’m the troop co-leader so of course I went out and bought another planner for that. Then I also have a separate birthday calendar that I keep above my craft table so I never forget to send a card. lol

I have no secrets! LOL….I have a day planner…sometimes I even remember to use it….I use my blackberry and I have my outlook calendar with tasks…sometimes I use that….but most times…I wing it and try to take things as they come….Most think I’m organized….but realistically….I’m just going with the flow…and somewhere along the way…something gets lost, misplaced, forgotten or overlooked…

Being organized definitely helps, but I’ve realized that I have to let some responsibilities go….saying “No” in a nice way sometimes eases the burden on our shoulders and gives us a little more time to focus on what matters most to us. I’ve learned to do that more often.

Sometimes life just gets nuts. I try and stay organized but it never seems to stay in place. I think all you can do is take a moment every day….catch your breath, stop and step back for a minute and let your brain rest. I know mine goes at full speed most of the day.

Ha Ha – Organized life – fergetboutit…..There was a day when I could not live without my calendar – everything was noted, planned, scheduled, etc. I even used to get upset that I could never buy next year’s calendar insert a year in advance because I really needed to plan that far ahead. After the boys both went of to college I never even knew what day it was LOL! (Yes I kinda enjoy this!). I think back in amazement how I accomplished all I did back then!. Now a day can go by and the to do list isn’t even looked at. I really need to get back to being organized…….sigh…..

Staying organized is challenging. Thankfully I do have a good memory. Once something is in there, it’s in there. However, I do keep a notebook with me and jot notes, ideas, dates in there as well as needed. I do try to live in each day, enjoy each day for what it is and not worry so much about what has to be done. I try and enjoy each smell, sight and sound with my children. It keeps me focused! 🙂

Lists, lists, lists…now if I could only remember where I put the lists! A calendar would be soooo much better than a lists, especially such a beautiful looking one!

I’m a rabid list maker! I also swear by the calendar on my computer. If it isn’t on there, it doesn’t exist. I really hope my computer never crashes (knock on wood!) I make time to live just by living and enjoying every moment I can.

Well, I’m not organized by any stretch of the imagination, but I have always been a firm believer in “living in the now”. Ever since our girls were little, my husband and I know that spending quality time with them in the most important thing! Our little family, the four of us, we spend time together as much as possible! It’s those “together memories” that our girls talk about all of the time! They love the fact that mom and dad were always willing to play a game, read them a book, watch a movie with them, etc. Giving of ourselves . . . that’s what matters every single day! Have a GREAT weekend!!

What a beautiful prize package! I am like so many others, it’s hard to live in the now when there are so many things that need to be done later!
I use my iPod Touch, Google Calendar, Outlook at work and a large Family calendar on the fridge at home where everyone’s activities can be written in.
Yet I still manage to forget where I’m supposed to be half the time.
Thanks!

Great giveaway!
I mostly rely on my brain to remind me what I need to do. The things I am sure I will forget I will either email a reminder to myself or add it to google calendar.
Thank you for the chance!

How do I juggle a busy life? Getting up extra early to get the little extra things done before the day begins for the family, multi-tasking, trying to maintain some organization and make lists so I remember what needs to be picked up/done. Then I can feel comfortable sitting down to stamp or play.

Great fall projects, and what a fabulous prize package! I use a Day Planner, an elctronic Palm planner, and sticky notes that are forever falling off whatever they’ve been stuck to! I always have such high hopes for keeping organized, but it’s a neverending battle. 🙂

Well I would lose my head if it wasn’t for all of my calenders and notes and lists I write myself. My husband and I recently celebrated our 14th anniversary and we got each othe iphones. Now I can keep all of my calenders and notes and lists in that!

I agree with you, I live and die by 2 things, my calendar and my lists (in the plural, I always have a few). If something isn’t on one of those, chances are it won’t get done.

I’m really good an making list and accomplishing tasks by checking them off. I’m not sure if that makes me live in the “now”, but I don get things done!

I have a trusty notebook that holds calendars, lists, coupons, more lists, etc. It keeps me in the right place at the right time and is the only way I feel “together”. I stay in the now by writing “to do’s” down on paper. Then I don’t have to worry about all the things ahead if they are incorporated into my daily life. I also have two beautiful children that make me enjoy the tiniest pleasures in life!

The older I get I have learned to enjoy each moment I have. I think back of the time I haven’t lived in the momenet and I can not get those moments back. I too, don’t get worked up for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. This is a no pressure holiday and we should enjoy it, afterall it is about a good meal !!!

LOVE this prize package!! While I am an avid list maker, use my kitchen calendar with a passion, and work hard to stay “organized”, I still find myself BEHIND, BEWILDERED, and BAFFLED on a regular basis! LOL!
Two tricks I have found to be helpful: START THE NIGHT BEFORE–if I make sure “today” is ready before bed “yesterday”, my “today” goes MUCH more smoothly! But the one thing that I found to be most benefitial is this: REMEMBER what is MOST important to me: God and my wonderful family! If I keep them first, everything else seems to fall into place.
Thanks for showing us the beautiful fall cards–and for the opportunity to win!
LOVE this blog!!!

Things are crazy at our house, we have apts. all the time, so I HAVE to have some kind of calendar and/or planner close by at all times. I also use a dry erase board for little reminders. It can be so hard to keep up on things for 6 people.
Those were some great card. Thanks for sharing them.

Forget the dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc. If my little girl is awake, then she has all my attention. That is how I live in the now and make the most of these moments with her. When she’s sleeping, I try to get some things done. And I try to get as much done before bed for the following day to help my mornings go a little smoother. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

I have LOTS of little post-it notes laying around! I also have a Franklin Covey Planner that I put everything in at work… phone conversations, dates, numbers, work orders, etc. It is my lifesaver!!
I tend to be forgetful sometimes, so little reminders, whether they are on an envelope on the counter, a reminder in my cell phone, a text to myself, email, etc., really help!

I’ve started using the calendar feature on my iPod to keep track of appointments and other “to-do” items while I am on the go. At homel, we have a white-board calendar on the fridge to look over the whole month. Otherwise, I have a handful of post-it notes and an ongoing grocery list. Even with all the calendars and planning, I live in the moment by turning off my “Planning Mom” mode after dinner and bathtime and just enjoy playing games or watching TV with my kids until their bedtime.

my secret to a sane and merry holiday season: 1. gotta have a calendar 2. gotta realize there are only 24 hours in a day (and that 6-8 of those should be used for sleeping) 3. gotta enjoy the moments that aren’t scheduled on the calendar

As a caregiver to an elderly parent (24-7), often my time is not my own. Very hard to plan any time but I do rely on my calendar kept right by my computer. My other saving grace is post-it-notes. How I love them! And of course I have to have a smaller calendar in my purse for making all those dr appts. etc. Thanks for the chance to win. A cool handmade calendar would be great!

I couldn’t live without my calendar which has all five of our schedules on it. My co-workers whose children are grown and out of the nest laugh when they see how crowded each month gets. If I lost it I would be lost. To help with the meal planning and grocery shopping I am in the process of finding 31 recipes that all 5 of us will eat and can be tweaked for my vegetarian son and picky daughter. As I find a keeper I type it into the computer and save it in a file. The goal is to have all 31 typed and then I will print them to keep in a notebook. They will be divided into weeks and grocery lists will be typed into the computer too so that I can print them out quickly. As soon as we get through meal 31 I will start at the beginning. I hope this will save me time by not having to plan meals and write grocery lists week after week. To say in the moment we try to plan a family night with no electronic interruptions and play board games or read.

Life gets so hectic nowadays. I try my best to do things ahead of time so I don’t stress myself out too much. And I always make sure I have some “me” time everyday. My crafting time is usually my “me” time. 🙂

My schedule is quite unpredictable but I try to manage my time by multi-tasking. Lol. Ever since I became a mom I’ve learned the art of multi-tasking. I try to keep notes on my cellphone’s calendar to keep track of my future schedules and make a list of things that I need to accomplish.

Why ya gotta get all deep on me this morning? LOL. It’s hard to live in the now, but I do try to do things just for me when my daughter is napping. I don’t do any chores, just craft or chill in front of the TV. I can do my chores while she’s awake… and sometimes she has fun doing them with me.

I have two calendars… one is a wall calendar that I have on my work desk. All birthdays, meetings, etc are written down on it. And I use Google Calendar… I have birthdays, meetings, etc on it as well. They added a Task function to the calendar awhile back and I use that too. My hubby to be is an organized guy and he has a work planner, so he reminds me of birthdays and special events too. =)

I’m retired and all my children are long gone. I still have things I’d like to get done so I set my timer for 30 minutes…and when that’s up I set it again. It just reminds me that time is going by and gives me a reminder that I can make a choice of what I want to do this 30 minutes. Works for me!

Living in the “now” has always been a challenge for me … I always seem to be getting “ready” for what’s ahead instead of enjoying right now. But I am working on it!! I do find that in my cardmaking hobby, that I can save time and energy by making several of the same card design – afterall, everything is out (inks, stamps, ribbons, punches) to make that card design so why not create a stash to have ready to save time for “later”.

These cards are AMAZING! Each one so unique and beautiful.
I am very organized (to the point of OCD, per my DH 🙂
When I was working full time, there was no way I could function without a Day Timer to schedule my every waking minute~it even included “me time” and “exercising”. Now that I am semi-retired I still use a calendar to schedule special events (card making dates) and appointments.

Out of necessity I have peared down the Christmas Crazies. I have broken my back so I have to pick and choose. My granddaughter is now a teenager which really helps too.
I do not put up a tree as standing and bending is not one of my strong suits right now.
I give a giftcard or money instead of gifts. Don’t have to shop the mall, drive there, find parking etc…
The big dinner you ask? This year it’s pizza!

Hello,

Thanks for showing me that kit…I have to have a calender or I’m lost. So my secret is to live and die by my extra large calender in the kitchen. It’s big so I can’t lose it! LOL! But I’ll have one kid off to college soon and I’ll probably be able to handle a smaller calender 🙂
I also have to ask my kids at least twice a day where they need to be and when. They have a tendency to forget to tell me. I am a professional teen chauffeur in case you are wondering. I use to work full time until my teens asked me stay home and cook decent meals and cart them around. No kidding!
I also think getting enough sleep and taking those B vitamins helps handle the stress. Thanks for thinking of us!

This one is hard for me because of trying to keep up not only with Thanksgiveing and Christmas so close add about 7 birthdays in those two months alone. A couple of years ago my daughter made me a holiday planner so I can keep track of all that needs to be done. So help myself relax from all that needs to be done I take the evenings to just sit back and watch a little TV to calm everything.

I have calendars and lists everywhere! We have a huge calendar hanging in our office, one on my desk, one in the kitchen, two in my purse (one for 2009 and one for 2010), and lists of “to do” things everywhere!

Tough question – I have always told people that I “manage”. Basically I do what I can, keep lists of things as best I can (includes a list of things when I put away the winter gear and bring out summer stuff – like need new boots for my oldest etc). I tell my daughters to “remind” me as I know I cannot remember everything. I say NO and don’t do some housework when it is more important to do something with the kids/family. I do try to plan ahead and do lots when I feel motivated. Keeping healthy and having good friends helps with the stress.

Have a big dry erase board to WRITE down notes.
I have learned to say NO to things I know I really can’t do. We can’t do it all and be sane. Choose things that you know you will have time for and not be stressed about doing it.

I try to take time almost daily for me. I am a sahm and have to have some days where i stay in pjs and crap. (like yesterday) I have a list and keep to it. I am a time freak. I have to be 5+ minutes early for everything or i am LATE. My phone with its alarms helps me a lot. I have about 4 that go off almost everyday.

I have a Dayplanner and make lists. Just writing things down helps me remember them. I also tell my family to remind me. My son always wanted to know why I told him to remind me, because the things I asked him to remind me, I always remembered. I told him, it was saying it out loud to him that helped me remember. LOL

My planner and my lists are my best friends when it comes to staying organized. I also have a dry erase board in the kitchen that I started using a little over a year ago. At the end of a week I plan our dinners for each night of the following week and write it on the board. Then I go to the grocery (once a week) to get what I need for those dinners. It’s great because this way I only have to think about dinner plans once a week instead of thinking every night—Hmmmm…what should we have for dinner tonight?

I’m old fashioned I guess. I used to do a planner when I worked full time. But now a days with kids still only in grade school and only working part time, I use a calendar on the fridge.
For my crafting habits (of swapping like mad) I use a weekly planner so I can write down when I mailed swaps and dc numbers, etc. You know that’s the important stuff. 🙂
I always get a calendar at the start of the year and mark all the dates like birthdays, etc on the new calendar and then recycle my old calendar pages into envelope.

I don’t have a secret and I’m not sure I’m doing a very good job of juggling my busy schedule. Right now we are harvesting so everything else takes second place to getting the crop in. One day at a time and a calendar for the rest (the calendar is on my desk but it is buried beneath bills, receipts and other misc. stuff). BUT….I would love to win some goodies so thanks for the opportunity!

Hah!! You make me laugh!! When I was working full time I could get things done and on-time!! But that all changed when I couldn’t work anymore. Without a day job, I can hardly remember what day it is! So I make lists. Lists for groceries, cleaning, laundry. Lists for my DH..altho he doesn’t like lists!! Too Bad! I make it through all the gift-making, card-making, shopping, gift-wrapping, baking, cleaning, and somehow find time for myself a long leisurely bath!!! All by Christmas Eve! I’m like a whirlwind! My DH says “Come to bed now, you’ve got to be tired”. I say, “I will”…on Dec. 26th. I used to be “Super Mom”..now I’m “Super Gramma”….can’t let the GDs down after all!!!

I keep organized by writing everything down in my planner including household chores I need to do for the day! However, if something happens and my day doesn’t go as planned, so be it. I have learned that you can’t plan everything; life has a way of just happening!

I struggle with organization, but I do make sure to write down all kids’ activities, appts etc onto the calendar the minute I get them. Otherwise I forget!

Seriously, the only way I get things done is by using a calendar. And living in the here and now? I try to enjoy whatever I do (work around the house listening to music, books on tape, etc.).
I hope that I win the calendar and paper.

I need to write absolutely everything on a calendar (like wash the dog, grocery shop–even the little basics like this). I live in the moment by appreciating everything around me. Exercising–the trees and flowers. Gardening–the sunshine. Housework–the beauty of a clean house…..
I’m hoping to win the calendar and decorative papers…

I stay organized by using my phone to list things.

Huh organization. Everytime I reorganize my office and then make a project, I find I need to reorganize. Perhaps someday I’ll get everything in it’s proper home. lol

I have a calendar on the fridge w/ kid appts. and activities, a calendar on my iPhone to remind me of stuff, a running to-do list everyday…but to keep me really grounded?
That takes my 2 kids and my dear husband. They remind me of what’s important. They remind me to step away from the computer or put down the glue gun. So even if I never completely finish all my to-do’s, they help me live in the now. 🙂

Besides keeping two calendars on the go I find the best way to keep balanced is to learn to say no…..not to take on more than I can handle. That gets away from me at times. The key is learning what I can cope with and when I add too much to the schedule I get overwhelmed. Balance is the answer.

I love calendars and use them in each of the main rooms in my home. I also am a list maker, which helps me to accomplish the things that I need to get done.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful fall cards. They are beautiful!

I live a little too much in the now, enjoying the moment and not getting the things done that I need to do for a smooth future! Mainly, nothing would get done if not for my Gmail calendar, which sends SMS reminders to my cell phone!

I am one of those very organized, planner types. I do use calendars and lists to keep track. And I schedule things on certain days that have to be done, so I can schedule the purely fun times too and not have to worry about schedule conflicts.

I use Google Calendar! Without it, I would be lost. Also, I take time everyday to just sit. Sometimes I think, sometimes I don’t. The time varies from day to day, but it always ends with thinking about something positive or funny. Huge difference in my mood after a quick break.

Each Sunday evening I make a to-do-list for the upcoming week. I look at it each day and make sure that I have everything scratched off the list before the week’s end. Also, I have everything (people’s birthdays, doctor’s app’ts, & etc.) written down in my day planner.

Calendars! A handwritten one keeps me on track! I have electronic stuff nothing like the one and only handwritten one. I always buy ahead and plan ahead it keeps the everyday tasks at hand. A to do list of must do’s helps for certian days. Well if you get sick it is just “game over!”

My Blackberry phone/organizer is my critical tool for keeping my life together. Phone numbers, grocery/shopping lists, even make voice notes for my work mileage. PocketMac software links the Blackberry to the Mac/iCalendar, so I have a backup on my schedule/life. Thanks for a fun comment question. It was fun to read some of the comments above my own.

Don’t worry about tomorrow, today has enough worries of its own!
I live by this scripture because otherwise I’d go nuts thinking about ALL I have to do in the the short time I have to do it! People say, How do you do it ALL. And I always say “by the Grace of God”!

Well…I think I still struggle with juggling and living in the now! I’m trying to be better at managing my time with my dayplanner. And LISTS! I have 3 ongoing lists: “this week”, “soon”, “eventually”. And I try to create a couple of cards at least once a week…helps me keep on track of b-days & other occasions, too!
