I pride myself on being a Do-It-Yourself kind of gal.
Well, at least when it comes to paper crafting. Let’s not talk about my ongoing bathroom rehab project!
I find it real fulfilling to raid my crafty stash every so often and make a few unique embellishments for my cards and paper crafting projects.
Most recently, I’ve been making stick pins. You don’t need a whole lot to make a pretty stick pin.
You just need a few beads, scraps of ribbon, paper and stick pins.
The easiest way to decorate up a pin is to add beads to it.
Here are two I recently made:

I started with pins with pearls already on them. Corsage pins in the floral department of most craft stores work great for this.
I applied a thin layer of glue to the pins. I prefer Super Glue. It is clear and really strong. And since I intended to use them on a card and not a scrapbook page, I did not have to worry about things being acid-free.
Then, I added a few beads. I was able to use the pins right away to make this card:

If you are feeling adventurous, you can also use ribbon and paper to make pretty pins.

I made the ribbon pin here by adding a bead to the pin. I then folded the ribbon and poked the pin through the ribbon over and over.
I made the pink pin with patterned paper. I randomly pierced holes in a strip of patterned paper and then wove the pin through them. I added a small dab of glue at the bottom of the paper, just to keep things nice and tight.
When I was finished, I put the pins on this card:

Have you made any fun embellishments lately?
Leave a comment here by midnight (MDT) on Thursday, April 15 and you could win one of two packs of beaded pins made by me. You’ll also get a copy of Paper Crafts’ May/June 2010 issue that has an excellent feature on DIY embellishments. Even though our Go-to Sketches Week is officially over, I’m going to squeeze in one more day of sketch-filled fun. Three weeks ago we launched our first ever Go-to Sketch Challenge. With sketches from Paper Crafts Go-to Gals Teri Anderson and Maren Benedict as inspiration, submissions poured in for all occasions. We picked these four entries (two per sketch) as our final winners!

Cindy Holshouser's Sweetest Flower Card is a direct interpretation of Teri's sketch (Go-to Sketches, p. 9).

Vanessa Menhorn also used Teri's sketch to create this delightful Ladybug Thanks Card.
Editor’s Note: Vanessa was just published for the very first time in our May/June 2010 issue! Not only that, her Rainbow of Butterflies Card (p. 74) made the cover! Click HERE to see cover girl Vanessa literally jumping for joy when her issue arrives in the mail.

Nicky Hsu felt inspired to create her Welcome, Little One Card from Maren's sketch (Go-to Sketches, p. 33).

Rosemary Dennis also used Maren's sketch to create her You're So Thoughtful Card.
Congratulations, ladies! Each of you has won either a one-year subscription to Paper Crafts or the special issue of your choice. I’ll be contacting you shortly to discuss your prizes. If you’re interested in seeing all the projects from our first Go-to Sketch Challenge, please visit our gallery HERE.
Wanna join the fun and participate in our next challenge? We just launched our bling-inspired April Gallery Challenge last Monday. This two-week challenge will run through midnight (MDT) on Monday, April 19. Click HERE to upload your sparkly entries today!

Welcome to Magazine Monday! Thanks again for all the comments from last week’s blogiversary celebration. You sure know how to make this humble editor feel good. It makes all the 2 a.m. “feedings” and lack of sleep well worth it. And now you know why I begin every morning with a tall glass of Coke over ice! Breakfast of champions!
Did everyone have a good weekend? For those of you affected by the snowstorms, I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to stayed indoors and catch up on some paper crafting. But before Feb. 14 arrives, let’s fall in love with our January Gallery Challenge winners. These three ladies not only aced our marker-themed challenge, but they actually made me want to go play with my Copics!
Winner #1 – Vanessa Menhorn:

We loved the detailed shading on Vanessa's clean and graphic card. Judging from her watermark and the name of her blog ("Wings of a Butterfly"), she's a fan of these beauties.

Apparently Nina is a fan of butterflies, too! We loved this shabby chic card and how she accented her butterfly with gorgeous pearls.
Winner #3 – Alice Wertz:

Alice definitely knows her way around a marker! Check out her blog for more examples of this fun and cute card.
Congratulations, ladies! Each of you has won either a one-year subscription or the special issue of your choice. I’ll be contacting you shortly to discuss your prizes. If you’re interested in seeing all the marker projects from the January challenge, please visit our gallery HERE.

Welcome to the first Magazine Monday of 2010! Like many of you, it’s time to head back to work after a nice, long break. While my “to-do” list literally has my head spinning, I’m excited to see what this brand new year has in store.
One of my personal goals is to make more time for me. I want to paper craft more, work out more and spend more time with the ones I love. And if I can paper craft with the ones I love, then it really doesn’t get much better than that! (I’ll worry about working off those nasty calories later!)
Speaking of paper crafting, we were blown away by our December Gallery Challenge - 912 entries from 187 members! Yes, I had the distinct pleasure of viewing every single design. In the end, these three ladies not only made Santa’s “Nice” list, but they also aced our holiday card challenge with their festive designs. Let’s meet our three winners!
Winner #1 – Melanie Douthit:

I love the pop of pink in Melanie's Holly Jolly Christmas Card.
Winner #2 – Danielle Flanders:

And I love how the tree and sentiment are the focal points in Danielle's I Believe Card.
Winner #3 – Vanessa Menhorn:

Judging from all of your comments, you're a fan of Vanessa's Green Christmas Card as well. Simply gorgeous!
Congratulations, ladies! Each of you has won either a one-year subscription or the special issue of your choice. I’ll be contacting you shortly to discuss your prizes. If you’re interested in seeing all 912 projects from the December challenge, please visit our gallery HERE.

We’ve been watching the gallery on the World Card Making Day web site grow and grow and grow…and I am just giddy that it’s over 1300 cards already. If you add in the 1000+ cards from the 2008 archive, there’s a whole lotta inspiration going on!
Cath spotlighted five gallery winners over at Moxie Fab World a few days ago, and I’m here to show you the other five winning gallery cards. Wow — what a group of talented cardmakers we have in our midst! Each winner will receive a one year subscription to Paper Crafts magazine.
