If you’re lucky enough to already own a copy of the new Paper Crafts Go-to Sketches, then you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say “over the top inspiration”. I was totally “wowed” just by looking at the gorgeous cover!
Well, that’s nothing compared to my delight in every single page of this very special issue. Gasp, grin and giggle pretty much describe my reaction. Then, it was off to my scrap room to act on all that inspiration.
Not only are sketches fun and easy to use, they are also super versatile. Let me show you. First, I picked out this simple sketch (I love the scallops).

I have a sister-in-law who recently had a baby, so I wanted to make a small gift bag. I thought this sketch would be perfect for a baby theme. Since I had a specific size to work with, I chose to paint a scalloped square directly on my patterned paper. Then, I simply added a cardstock strip, flower and stickers. I love how it turned out.

Of course, sketches are perfect for cards, too. I’m feeling the love for the baby stuff now, so I continue on and made a baby card. This time I turned the sketch upside down for a little different look.

I freehand cut my scallops and added a little paint swoosh here and there. A ribbon tie and a few small accents are all I needed to finish this little cutie.
Why not round it out by making a little tag, too? I love having a few tags in my stash to tuck into small gifts.

I kept pretty true to the sketch by making my tag a square; then, I used a scalloped square punch, two little pieces of ribbon and an epoxy for my sentiment. This was super fast and easy to create!
Now, I know you really want a chance to win a copy of this new special issue – am I right? All you have to do is leave me a comment and tell me about the last time you paper crafted a NON-card project. What did you create? Scrapbook pages, home décor, a gift bag? You have until midnight (MDT) on Thursday, April 8 to leave a comment and be entered to win one of three copies!
Happy Sketch Days!
Kim Kesti,
Paper Crafts Go-to Gal
P.S. Some of the other Go-to Gals are making a bag, a tag and a card from this very same sketch! Make sure you visit their blogs to see their interpretations. And I hear Cath is hosting her Go-to Sketch Challenge on Moxie Fab World today. Feel like getting sketchy? Hop on over to see the fun!

My last non-card project was for a friend who needed a little cheering up. She works in retail and I know how frustrating it can be sometimes. So I decorated a little jar, filled it with white, grey, and black punched out holes and labeled it “Ashes of Problem Customers”. It was appreciated.

Although I’m a pretty die-hard card maker, I ventured into new territory a few months ago by making an exploding box. There are two layers of cardstock where the 4 sides fold up to form a box. I put photos of my family in it for my mom for mother’s day.

The last thing I made was a hand folded gift box. I stamped an image on a scalloped piece of watercolor paper, painted it and adhered it to the box top. It actually looks like I used this sketch as inspiration!

Just finished a set of 6-3″ blocks that I paper craft using Graphic 45 papers, Making Memories small frames and 2″ letters, Tim Holtz distress inks. Each block had a letter on it that spelled family. Each frame will have a picture of my friends family in it. I also put other embelishments and sentiments on them. They are the cutest thing ever.

cute CUTE baby themed stuff, Kim! i love that you were confident enough to splash some paint and cut your scallops freehand – punches and dies make it so easy for us to play it safe, and this just adds an extra little touch of whimsy. TOTALLY diggin’ that!
the last non-card thing i made was a tag – oops, no, i’m not quite finished with that! okay, how about a memo pad holder? started the project at a make-and-take but brought it home and customized it to my tastes. i have lots of little gifty things to give away, but never seem to get around to GIVING them!!

I made little Valentine boxes for my daughter’s teachers. They held 5 Ghirardelli squares and had an oval scallop window to see into the boxes. I also recently made a tag with a pink car on it for my daughter’s backpack to remind her of the days she would be a “car rider” instead of a “bus rider”.

Love the paint swirls on the scallops; I want to try this. My last non-card project was altering a paper mache round hat box with Christmas/holiday paper for my step-daughter to hold small Christmas ornaments. I used October Afternoon paper, lots of lace and pearls…it sent me out of my comfort zone, but I had a lot of fun creating it and was happy with the results.

The last thing I did was to alter a big wooden “R”. I used some three bugs in a rug boy paper and it now hangs proudly on my baby Riley’s bedroom door! It was the first time that I had ever altered anything! It was so much fun. I can’t wait to do it again.

Last non-card project was a set of Journals in a Jar. It was slips of colored paper with questions ranging from whimsical to serious. (Ex. “Have you ever seen a dbl rainbow? Describe your proudest moment. What’s your favorite dessert?) The jar was topped with a square of cloth and a ribbon and a blank notebook accompanied the gift. The idea is to pull a question, tape it to the top of a page and then answer! Fun!

I think the last non-card paper craft I made was gift wrap. We ran out of Christmas paper, so my daughter and I went back to the basics. We used brown grocery bags, cut a potato into a tree shape, and stamped using paint (red or green). The packages were tied with a complementary colored ribbon and resulted in a charming presentation.

my last non-card project was a sort of plaque, 2 sided hinged in the middle with bia coil. and i used Route 66(i think) paper with 2 cars from the 1940′s. and then added some tim holtz sprockets. it was so masculine looking. i made one for my dad, and my husband liked it so much, he wanted one made for his dad. SO i made 2, and forgot to take pics of either. don’t know what i was thinking that day.

I also did a scrap calendar, using photos from the previous year, I do this every year, I list family/friend BD’s and anniversaries as well as holidays. It’s always a huge hit!

Hey Kim- love your takes on the sketch- you are Rock’n the baby goodies!!! The last non-card thing I made, is a large picture frame to display my cards. My mother is my biggest supporter of my “card making hobby” (& my bestest friend) & I make lots of cards for her & she wanted a way to display them. I took a (16×20-I think) frame & then took 6 happy, fun pieces of patterned paper & made it into a grid of/6 rectangles, I then used 6 more pieces of patterned paper to mat over that- finally I added bright colored metal clips. Now my mom can display 6 at a time & change them up as she likes. This was so fun to make, especially because it was for my mom!!!

I made a few mini projects for Easter goodies (non-edible) for my friends. My favorite were altered Dollar Spot list pads from Target. I made covers and embellished them with Martha’s new fringe scissors. I can’t wait to make a few more.

Over the weekend I “scrapped” signs for the sunday school rooms at church – with my handy dandy cricut and cricut design studio, I welded the titles and teachers’ names in shaddow and then cut the regular letters from some fun and funky paper. Now there are bright signs welcoming the kids into their rooms

My last non-card item was a 12×12 wall hanging in beautiful soft colors with a big FAMILY printed across the top. Lots of swirls, flowers, stamping, bling and hardware. Its going up in my front hall as soon as I get my picture printed.

Besides making cards, which is like instant gratification because they can be make quickle (sometimes anyway), I also scrapbook. I really love to make albums so my granddaughters will know or remember people in their family.

I’m really a scrapbooker who also makes cards, so I do more scrapbooking than card making. But last night I attended a SU club and made a 2 page LO combining snow & Christmas (we had a blizzard this past Christmas Eve), and I made a gift holder from 2 top note die cuts. I also made a card last night.

My last non-card project was creating a sample gift tag package for an Etsy store owner. I am currently offering this, since I am fairly new to Etsy and thought it would a nice way to get some of my gift tags out there. I used some features of her store’s banner and created some lovely gift tags for her. I hope she likes them. Thanks for a chance to win!
Blessings!

I love to make cards and sent them to people that need to be encouraged, but this past weekend, I paper crafted a booklet for a friend that needed advice on how to gift a Tea Party! What fun it was and I hope it will help her organize her church ladies and have alot of fun with them.

Hmm, I don’t know if this really counts as papercrafting, but I used a papercrafting tool (my Silhouette) to glass etch animals on coasters! Otherwise, I suppose the last thing was a scrapbook… several, several years ago.

I made several scrapbook pages about a month ago, and am working on a little altered box right now. I do tend to make cards most often though….

Last night I scrapbooked a page of my 3 year old and all the things he is doing now – my favorite kind of scrapbook page! It is so easy to forget those little things and they change so fast!

Last project I made was a bag.. but like every bag I’ve made, it ended up falling apart after a while. Too much movement I think, so the glue wears off eventually. That’s why I like to stick to cards

Loved your little cards and gift bag. My last non-card item and this is difficult because I am definitely into making cards, was a bathtub baby book for my niece’s baby shower! It really turned out well and she loved it.
I started with a bathtub shaped board book and covered it with decorative papers, a title with the baby’s name, frames for photos and stamping to embellish it all.

I don’t get to non-card projects often enough. The last time I made something it was a heart box just for me. I sprayed old book paper with glimmer mist, tore the pages and modpodged it onto the box. Lot’s and lot’s of embellies with a big bow tied around it. I cut the word “believe” and put it on it and I am putting the things I believe I can do in it! The #1 thing was to be published in your mag! Now I just need to submit something!!! Scary!!!
Blessings,
Christine
