It’s that time of year again. With school fast approaching, there are registrations to send in, clothes to buy and supplies to find. I’m always amazed at the great deals you can get on school supplies, as stores try to lure you in with the hopes you purchase other items there. I have seen school supplies for a few cents each. What a deal!
What do school supplies being on sale have to do with paper crafting? A lot! Many school supplies are perfect for you paper crafted projects and for embellishments on mass-produced cards for swaps. Some items that I always like to stock up on, and work great in paper crafting are:
- Lined notebook paper
- Wood rulers
- Wood pencils
- Paperclips (these come in lots of fun colors!)
- Staples
- Brads
- Markers
- Glitter glues
- Glue sticks
- Colored pencils
- Gel pens
- Colored tape
- Lined note cards
- Composition notebooks
- Pocket folders
- Spiral mini notebooks

With the economy now, I’m always looking for a great deal. Look at the card I made with lined notebook paper, brads and a wood pencil. I just added some whimsical chipboard letters, ribbon and silver Glimmer Mist. A quick and easy back to school card was made just like that!

So make sure to keep an eye open for those unique school supplies you can stock up for yourself while you’re shopping for the kids.
Happy paper crafting from A-Z!
Alisa, Paper Crafts Pro
P.S. Kelly told me she has some leftover paper from Imaginisce’s Teacher’s Pet collection. Leave a comment telling me your favorite school supply and I’ll pick five winners to receive an assortment of school-themed paper, as well as some jewel brads from American Crafts. All comments must be received by midnight (MST) on Thursday, August 6.

My fave school supply is the blank new folder …. I used to doodle my way through classes on those and they provided hours of relief from the tedium of lectures. I find my oldest DD is the same way now

My favorite school supply is brand new sharpened pencils. They also must have great erasers on them-the second the eraser is gone, I put a new one on! Same with the sharpened tip-the second it starts to fade, it must be re-sharpened. Thank goodness for my electric pencil sharpener!!

My fave school supply is a fresh clean notebook. I’ve always loved paper even before they put patterns on it…LOL! On my first visit to WalMart with my new husband, I insisted on buying a pack of composition books that were so pretty. My new husband couldn’t understand what I needed so many notebooks for. I told him I could find a use for them some how, but I HAD to have them. From that moment on, he holds me back when we see a school supply display

I’ve always loved notebooks and pens. When I was a kid I was enamored of those fat Bic pens that let you switch between red, green, blue, and black inks all in one pen. And I thought my Trapper Keeper was way cool.

One of my favorite back to school items is CRAYONS! I did a church project with the 12-18 yr old girls for a stress reliever night which included coloring! I did it in January when they went back to school after the holidays, and bought the crayons then for $1.00. I am thinking ahead this year and bought them for $0.25!!! Big difference! I also like the little note notebooks. They are about 3.5×5″ or so and work great for little altered journals for my church girls! Fun Fun!
I really like your penciled card. What a FAB idea!

Love the composition notebooks (they come in all sizes and colors now) as well as colored pencils. Whether my girls need them or not I always get them new boxes at the beginning of the school year (I get their old ones!) Oh, and highlighters, colored paper clips, oh my, just about anything from the stationers!

I love school supplies and was thrilled when my youngest, the only girl, begged to go shopping for them last year. Her brothers have no interest whatsoever and to them it’s a boring chore. If I had to pick one favorite I’d go with the composition notebooks–so crisp at the beginning of the year waiting to be filled. I enjoy altering them for my daughter and her friends. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win some fun blog candy!

Choose!!!!! You’ve got to be kidding! I just got back from Staples yesterday and picked up all their 1 cent deals and many of their $1 and $2 deals. Pens, pencils, erasers, loose-leaf paper (yes they still call it that). A couple of weeks ago, I went and got all their pens & pencils AND a battery operated pencil sharpener for FREE!!!!!! after the rebate. I’m commonly called the coupon & rebate queen of my family…imagine that
Can’t wait for teacher appreciation day next week.
Can’t tell I’m a teacher can you???? LOL

My favorite back to school item was (and I think still is) the spiral notebook, I always loved opening a fresh, new notebook and would take some time to find one that I loved the most since the paper was different in all of them — I guess my fascination and love for paper has always been there, even as a child! I remember one year I had one with lavendar striped paper and that was my all time favorite one!
Your card is really cute – great idea for a first day teacher card.

My favorite school supply is mechanical pencils. I love the fine lines, no sharpeners, and ease of erasing. Wooden pencils also feel creepy.

My favorite school supplies are those big colored paperclips. I use them for everything. I also love 3×5 cards which I keep in my purse for recipes…….Those Composition Books are also great for daily thoughts and journaling.

can you really ever have too many notebooks to jot down all the lovely things in life? My daughter and I fight over them constantly. They are a life’s necessity really. From homework, to lists, doodles, love notes, dreams….think of all that they hold inside. Gotta love the notebook:)

There are so many uses, besides school, for school supplies. I have a drawer full of supplies and my kids don’t get them all!

As a special ed teacher I have to admit that my favorite school supply is kleenex, preferably a soft one and not the cheap ones that give you a sore nose. We always seem to be running out and good kleenex is not cheap!
